I brought my work home and took photos all around the five cross-roads.

inspiration 2

I love jeff frosts' work. I saw it on vimeo when I made my video in 2012. his use of space inspired me to add to my sculpture and include the two metal sheets on the wall. his work not only looks at the house but includes the scene through the window. brill.

Great exhibition

I added a tilt to the cubes because it is a familiar sight when a bike is parked. also the two extra burnt metal sheets on the wall are an extension of my sculpture yet part of it. I feel there is more to just owning a bike, it's being part of a culture with like-minded people.

assembling the metal sheets

 In January 2013 tutor Sean Lynch wanted a formal presentation from me by end of February. I bought a  bench grinder in lidl for smoothing the edges. the metal sheets are not measured but I cut them to fit my saddle-bags on my bike. I drilled lots of holes and provisionally tied them together with gardening wire. I didn't use them all in my sculpture. I sprayed them with marking-out spray for a building site. I outlined them with bitumen.

inspiration

nathan slate joseph lays out his metal on palletes, pours acid and adds pure pigment. this inspired my experimentation with galvanize. 

Identity

the material I used for my sculpture is left-over galvanize from roofing my shed. hubby got it free in the celtic tiger when it was skipped.  so I called my piece celtic cubes, also reflecting my love of cubist art.  in the first photo I used a blue light. the second photo is the cat flap and an axe! all taken at night with my Nikon 3000

battery acid and burning

I dipped galvanize in battery acid and allowed to rust. I burnt galvanize with a rubber tyre. I equated all the cutting with grinders to driving my motor bike. it's very physical and needs a bit of skill. Gareth the tutor likened me to mad max!.

Gathering

This is the photo I chose for the gathering exhibition in Shannon Airport. We're packing up after the South West Rally in 2011 near Ballyheigue, Kerry.

pinhole camera

I'm happy with these results. I did invert them, cos this is the negative.

3rd year

I set up my bathroom as a darkroom. I made a pinhole camera from a cereal box. Then I got some photos of my bike.
